Biography
Hi,

My name is Curtis Butler, and I am the owner of Ocean of Inspiration. I am a songwriter/composer (lyrics and music) born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.

I began my musical journey playing the trumpet in elementary school. I studied music at the Cleveland Music School Settlement for 2 years (piano, theory, harmony and composition), after which I began writing music for the school orchestra and, later on, for vocal and instrumental groups I sung, played and toured with. My influences are varied, from classical composers like Tchaikosky Beethoven and Mozart, to the Beatle's Lennon/McCartney to Motown writers Holland/Dozier/Holland and many others across the genres.

More recently, I began to write rather prolifically, so that I now have some 80 copyrighted songs/instrumentals registered with BMI, the performance rights organization of which I have been a member since 2003. One of the songs ("Reggae Jubilee", which I collaborated, providing the music and melody) placed in the top 10 percent out of over 4,000 entries from over 40 countries in the 2001 Unisong International Song Contest. Another song, "You Got The Love I Really Need", earned me royalties from BMI for usage in a video made in South Africa in 2009.

In recent years, I have written and produced songs for Elprocomm Revue - an aggregate of 4 artists (virtual band Savory Cool, female artists Gina Brothers and Cynthia Bowen, and male vocalist Curtis Butler - myself). They are the performers of what you hear on this site, so all performance credits go to them for their hard work. "Performance credits" is not to be confused with performance royalties, which belong to me, the songwriter and publisher of the works you hear on Ocean of Inspiration. Since I am the creator/owner of the revue, writer of most of their music, as well as producer of all their material, I control the great majority of both master and synchronization rights to material performed by the revue.
